Certified Diamonds As Wise Investments

The diamond trade is a business that’s replete with secrecy and interesting stories. Because these are small but extremely expensive items, diamonds, through the years have been hidden, illegally traded, and used as ransom.

Many have become instantly wealthy with diamonds, yet others have lost their fortunes because of them. When buying and selling diamonds, make sure that you only deal in certified diamonds.

Certified diamonds are those gems that have been processed legally and thus have been certified by official gemologists. Certificates are earned because of their quality. Before these diamonds are deemed fit for trading, they first have to be graded according to set criteria and certified.

When the gems officially become certified diamonds, they can then be legally traded and are thus qualified as acceptable forms of investment. Not all people, though, make good investors in certified diamonds. Some say this is because diamonds don’t have the same properties, making their values unstable.

Proponents of certified diamond investment, on the other hand, claim that it can be considered one of the most practical investments. After all, diamonds can easily be taken anywhere; they appreciate in value year after year; and they do last more than a lifetime.

What your prospects are

If you are well-versed in diamond appraisal, investing in certified diamonds can be an extremely lucrative business. Records show that the prices of certsin diamond types have increased up to more than 300 times over the last half decade and are expected to continue rising by some 10-20% more for the coming years.

As certified diamonds become more popular, thanks to the manner they’re being displayed by celebrities and other members of the rich and famous, it’s highly likely that their prices would continue to spiral upward.

These days, market analysts believe that certified diamonds could even be better forms of investment than gold. If you decide to venture into certified diamond investing, make sure that you choose the right kinds of stones.

Invest wisely

Choose the rarer and more expensive certified diamonds if you have the capital. Remember – the rarer a stone is, the more likely its price to appreciate in a shorter period of time. Often, when a certified diamond is found to be incomparable to any other gem, it can even fetch record prices at big-name auction houses.

Don’t forget to keep the four C’s in mind – color, cut, clarity, and carat. These are the essentail things to base your selection on for any certified diamond purchase. Again, if you have the money to investment, go for the bigger certified diamonds. These can fetch much higher prices – carat for carat – than the smaller-sized ones.

Certified diamonds, however, cannot be liquidated as quickly as stocks or real estate. This is why it isn’t wise to invest in them if you’re in a hurry to dispose of them. Investing in diamonds takes many years before you can realize a handsome profit.
